At BookBlog we have a love of books and a passion for reading - which we think should be fun; and which we seek to share with others of like mind. 

What drove us to set up this site?

While some of us get great pleasure from our reading, we shouldn't forget that in early 21st century Britain, some 20 percent of the adult population still have the barest of literacy skills - and struggle to read the instructions on packaging or even a bus or train timetable.  

And while the UK publishing industry churns out several hundred thousand new titles and millions of individual books every year, much of the developing world, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa, where English is the language of education and lingua franca or second language to millions of people - they suffer an on-going book famine.  

To do our little bit for better and more accessible literacy, both here and overseas, we are donating any surplus income made from affiliate sales on this site to a selection of literacy related projects, from supporting child and adult literacy programmes here in the UK, to shipping suitable educational and reading material to select projects overseas.

So, yes, we do have a serious side after all, but for the rest of it please remember, READING SHOULD BE FUN FOR ALL!
